Dame Directo

Dame Directo is a foundational call within Rueda de Casino, a social circle dance originating from Cuba. The figure facilitates a direct partner exchange, where the leader moves to the follower immediately positioned to their left in the circular formation. Unlike the standard 'Dame' call, which typically involves moving to the first follower behind the leader's back, Dame Directo directs the leader forward to the next available partner in the direction they are currently facing ^[1]. Mechanically, the lead guides the follower forward, often utilizing a left-hand, right-hand, or dual-hand connection to navigate the transition ^[1]. Some variations involve the leader raising their right arm to signal the change without physical contact when leading with the left hand ^[1]. As a core element of the Rueda repertoire, it is frequently employed to maintain the synchronization of the group as they rotate through the circle. The figure is accessible to dancers at the beginner or improver level and remains a staple in contemporary Rueda practice, with instructional documentation dating back over a decade ^[1].
