Enchufla con Clave is a rueda de casino call: one couple figure is executed in synchrony with the surrounding circle after a caller gives the signal, within a dance form organized around multiple couples and frequent partner changes.[1] Its base is Enchufla, a compact left-turning reorientation for the follower under the connected hand, followed by a clave-accented clap or marked pause before the next rueda action. In a standard On1 casino count, the first measure places the break on 1: the leader breaks back on the left while the follower breaks back on the right, then the leader opens the lane and guides the follower into a left, counter-clockwise reorientation of about a half turn by 3. The second measure breaks on 5, completes the re-facing or partner-transfer resolution by 7, and uses the clave marking as a rhythmic punctuation rather than an extra travelling turn. Rueda de Casino is associated with Cuban casino practice and is commonly described as a circle, or wheel, formation; several general histories place its development in Havana social-club settings in the mid twentieth century.[2]

How it's danced

Lead and follow cues

CountOn1 casino/rueda count: one break per measure, on 1 and 5. First measure: 1 break, 2 replace, 3 Enchufla reorientation. Second measure: 5 break, 6 replace or collect, 7 resolve and mark the clave accent. Counts 4 and 8 are holds or rhythmic claps according to the local call.

Lead

On 1-2-3, break back on the left, replace, and raise the connected lead hand while opening slightly to guide the follower's left, counter-clockwise Enchufla reorientation; the first half uses roughly a half-turn budget for the follower, ending with both partners prepared to re-face or transfer. On 5-6-7, break once on 5, resolve the connection and circle alignment by 7, and mark the clave accent with claps or a held rhythmic punctuation according to the caller's local convention.

Follow

On 1-2-3, break back on the right, replace, and pass under the connected hand into a left, counter-clockwise Enchufla reorientation of roughly a half turn, keeping the turn compact and centered in the rueda spacing. On 5-6-7, break once on 5, complete the re-facing or partner-change resolution by 7, and answer the leader's timing with the same clave-accented clap or marked pause used by the set.

Song timingBest at moderate casino social tempos around 150-185 bpm, where the Enchufla turn and clave marking can both be placed cleanly. Around 190 bpm and above, the clap or pause becomes a fast-end accent and should stay compact.

Learn first

Prerequisites

  • Casino basic step on On1 timing.
  • Dile que no or basic partner-change resolution.
  • Enchufla.
  • Basic rueda spacing and caller response.
  • Simple clave-clap coordination.

Watch out

Common mistakes

  • Treating the follower's count 1 as a forward break instead of a back break on the right foot.
  • Adding a second break inside the same measure instead of breaking once on 1 and once on 5.
  • Turning the follower to the right; Enchufla is a left, counter-clockwise reorientation.
  • Letting the clave clap replace the weight change, which leaves the couple late for the count-5 break.
  • Under-rotating the Enchufla so the follower cannot re-face or transfer cleanly by 7.
  • Using large slot-style travel that distorts the rueda circle spacing.

Don't confuse with

Easily confused moves

  • Enchufla: the base figure without the clave-accented clap or pause.
  • Enchufla doble: a repeated or doubled Enchufla action, not the same call as Enchufla con Clave.
  • Dame con clave: a partner-change call with a clave accent, but not the same Enchufla-based entry.
  • Cross-body lead with styling: a linear salsa figure; Enchufla con Clave belongs to rueda/casino vocabulary.
