How it's assessed

The node is mastered when the dancer can style the free arm through basic and simple turning material without changing timing, pulling the shoulder line, blocking the partner, or weakening the lead-follow connection.

Full write-up

Arm styling in Lambada is the controlled use of the free arm, hand line, elbow path, and shoulder tone to clarify expression without changing the lead-follow information. This node sits after basic timing, grounded weight transfer, and simple partner connection because the dancer first needs a stable axis and reliable frame before adding decorative movement. In Lambada, arm styling often follows the circular quality of the dance: the arm traces rounded pathways, releases from the torso without collapsing the shoulder, and returns to a useful position before the next connection or turn. The styling remains secondary to rhythm, balance, and partner safety. A lead’s styling must not obscure or replace the actual lead, and a follow’s styling must not delay a response, pull the torso off axis, or create tension through the shoulder and neck. In role-fluid and switch-friendly settings, both roles learn the same principle: the arm can show phrasing only after the body has completed the required weight change and connection task. Mastery unlocks cleaner turn finishes, clearer open-position shapes, and more musical presentation because the dancer can add visible detail while preserving the shared structure of the dance.
